Description 

:

A tall, large, deciduous tree. The wood is brownish-grey and very hard and durable. Leaf: The younger leaves have velvet hairs. The leaves are longer than broad, oval shaped. Flower: The flowers are small, creamy white, and sweet scented. Fruit: The fruit is a drupe with single seed. The drupe is shiny, spindle shaped, greenish yellow and faintly angled. Size of the fruit varies. Bark: The stem bark is dark brown and falls of into irregular woody scales.  

Uses

Haritaki powder, together with catechu and a few other herbs have been used to help ulcers and wounds with some portion of clarified butter or bland oils.

The powdered form of haritaki can be utilized for various topical applications as well. A paste of this herb made with small quantities of distilled water is known to have anti-inflammatory as well as some form of analgesic effect. Haritaki with a few other herbs is also used as surgical dressing lotion for would dressing. It is an effective mouth wash and gargle and is believed to help sore throats for its astringent elements.
